As we get ready to launch our most exciting and ambitious collection yet, we thought it was a good opportunity to introduce you to the talented print designer that we collaborated with to create the stunning chinoiserie print that features in our upcoming new range of organic cotton lingerie and sleepwear!
The design was created by designer and illustrator Michelle Freer. Not only is she the sister of Eco Intimates designer and founder, Madonna Bain, and has worked behind the scenes at Eco Intimates as our in-house graphic designer from the get go, but she also recently launched the eco-friendly and botanically inspired accessories and homewares brand Mimi&Bloom!
Mimi&Bloom is a very special UK based boutique brand that specialises in high-end, eco-luxe home and fashion accessories including wallpaper, silk scarves and cushions. All products feature Michelle's original, hand-drawn or painted artwork and are locally produced in England by specialist manufacturers with a huge emphasis on natural and eco-friendly materials and production methods.
In particular, her divine silk-Tencel scarves are made using a blend of eco-friendly Tencel fibres with pure silk, the intricate artwork is digitally printed onto the luxurious silk blend and then finished with a hand-rolled hem. These are like wearable pieces of artwork, something to be treasured. Follow Michelle on Instagram here to see her creating work and the sketches behind her designs.
Michelle says of the collaboration with Eco Intimates: "Working together with my sister on creative projects just comes naturally for both of us. We're always bouncing ideas off each other, discussing product options and gabbing about our favourite trends and styles and how we can incorporate them into our own work! I've always been her biggest supporter for building the Eco Intimates brand and I am also a massive devotee to her unique organic cotton lingerie... Greta knickers are my all-time favourite and I wear them almost every day because they are so comfortable and flattering!"
The chinoiserie print that is featured in the upcoming Eco Intimates collection began with one of Michelle's botanical illustrations of cherry blossoms and peony flowers, that Madonna instantly fell in love with.
She wanted to incorporate it into her new collection, with its soft pinks and cinnamon brown colourways. Michelle then created the custom made 'Chinoiserie' print design, which is inspired by the iconic 19th-century design style that draws on oriental imagery made for a western audience.
Madonna says of the print "I love the romantic and Chinese art inspired feel of this print and I cannot wait to share this new collection with my followers as it's been many months of hard work from me and my team and working with my sister to create this special print was such a big part of that."
The new Chinoiserie Collection by Eco Intimates organic cotton lingerie is launching on the 1st of September 2020, with organic cotton sleepwear following in October. Sign up for our VIP list to be the first to get your hands on the new pieces!
